Emsella Q & A

What is BTL Emsella?

The BTL Emsella is a new, state-of-the-art treatment that uses electromagnetic technology to stimulate pelvic floor musculature to rehabilitate the weak muscles in the pelvis and restore neuromuscular control for male and female urinary incontinence.

How does BTL Emsella work?

The BTL Emsella works by using high intensity focused electromagnetic technology to cause deep pelvic floor muscle stimulation. The HIFM technology enables the pelvic floor muscles to contract, forcing deep penetration and stimulation to modify the muscle structure. The BTL Emsella produces contractions that are equivalent to doing 10,000 kegels in less than 30 minutes.

How many treatments are required?

Depending on severity of symptoms, a patient can receive an average of around 6 treatments. Each session would be 28 minutes in length, scheduled twice a week. If symptoms of incontinence are more prominent, your provider may suggest more treatments.

Who is the right candidate?

If you are suffering from urinary incontinence linked to aging, vaginal delivery, menopause, or seeking improvement in the quality of your intimate life, the BTL Emsella could be the right treatment for you.

Benefits of BTL Emsella

  • Patient can remain fully clothed during treatment
  • Non-invasive
  • Walk-in, walk-out "procedure"
  • Gain more control of bladder
  • Can alleviate symptoms of all types of incontinence (stress, urge, and mixed)

What are the advantages to BTL Emsella over other incontinence treatment options?

BTL Emsella is the only procedure that targets pelvic floor muscles and causes a deep enough penetration for aiding the restoration and repair of the muscles. Other procedures are more invasive, putting a patient at risk for contracting burns inside the vagina, or, merely stimulating tissues superficially.

How safe is it?

The BTL Emsella is FDA cleared, medical CE-marked, and represents the first innovative technology that has shown improvement for treating incontinence and other intimate disorders. However, precaution is advised for those with cardiac pacemakers, implanted defibrillators, electronic implants, metal implants, drug pumps, as well as for patients who are pregnant or menstruating.

Is there clinical research?

There have been studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of the BTL Emsella in the United States and Canada. Over 95% of these patients reported to be satisfied in regards to improvement in patients’ quality of life.
